This virtual elective runs over one full day from 08:45 am - 16:30 pm on Tuesday 1 Dec 2026 with a 3 hour follow up session on Thursday 10 December 2026 from 12:45 pm - 4 pm. You must attend both sessions to be marked as complete.
Registration is via My Health Learning and a MS Teams meeting invitation will be issued closer to the workshop.
Purpose
After completing this course you will be able to apply several coaching skills to enhance your coaching of others to apply safety and improvement to local initiatives.
Learning objectives
By the end of this elective, you will be able to:
- Define coaching and the nuances of coaching versus mentoring for improvement (in the context of other staff development models).
- Apply some core coaching skills to support others in their application of safety and quality improvement (psychological safety, listening, questioning, strengths based, action planning, motivating others).
- Understand the situational nature of coaching for improvement depending on the needs of the coachee.
- Lightly structure a coaching session to empower the coachee to explore their current situation, identify their available resources, and arrive at next steps.
Target audience
- Current and future Safety & Quality Essential Pathway faculty OR
- Staff with a level of capability with the application of improvement science to plan, undertake and evaluate small scale improvements.
- Staff who have support of their local manager to support others in safety and quality improvement.
