NSW Medicines Formulary a finalist in the 2024 NSW Premier’s Awards

25 September 2024

The NSW Medicines Formulary has been nominated as a finalist in the 2024 NSW Premier's Awards.

The formulary is competing for a team award in the Highest quality healthcare category, highlighting initiatives that improve healthcare access, particularly in regional and remote communities.

“Medicines are the most common therapeutic intervention for patients in NSW public hospitals and the NSW Medicines Formulary ensures patients across the state can access a uniform list of evidence-based medicines based on their clinical needs, regardless of where they present,” Adjunct Professor Michael Nicholl, CEC Chief Executive, said.

“It is a testament to our strong partnership with the NSW Ministry of Health and collaboration with hospital networks, local health districts, HealthShare NSW and eHealth NSW.”

Through this reform, driven by NSW Health, the formulary has reduced the number of medicines used in public hospitals from about 6,700 to about 2,300, making healthcare delivery more efficient and generating almost $100 million to NSW Health in the first financial year.

The initiative is also a finalist in the 2024 NSW Health Awards.

Congratulations to our CEC colleagues and those in partner agencies who worked together to achieve this outstanding result and have been recognised as 2024 NSW Premier’s Awards finalists.
